Swedish Massage:

The term "Swedish Massage" refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure toward the heart. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Swedish massage feels good, is relaxing and invigorating. It affects the nerves, muscles, glands, and circulation, while promoting health and well being.

Swedish massage techniques include:

  • Effleurage: Gliding strokes with the palms, thumbs and/or fingertips
  • Petrissage: Kneading movements with the hands, thumbs and/or fingers
  • Friction: Circular pressures with the palms of hands, thumbs and/or fingers
  • Vibration: Oscillatory movements that shake or vibrate the body
  • Percussion: Brisk hacking or tapping
  • Passive and active movements: Bending and stretching

Deep Tissue Massage:

Deep Tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity, such as athletes, and patients who have sustained physical injury.

When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.

Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, the massage therapist often uses direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles.

Hot Stone Massage:

Stone therapy is a contemporary approach to alternating body temperatures during a massage. It is a multifaceted approach with techniques designed to reduce client’s tension.

The stone therapy benefits include:

  • Induces a state of deep relaxation
  • It stimulates the circulatory system and promotes self healing
  • Warm muscular tissue will loosen sooner and stretch further
  • It increase range of motion
  • Helps to soften and relax the muscles
  • Helps to relieve pain and muscle spasm
  • Detoxification of the body
  • Heat may help to regulate digestion, speed up metabolism
  • Improves metabolic rate
  • Balances and soothes the autonomic nervous system, allowing the client to rest and relax

Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy:

Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy is a highly refined system of corrective therapy designed to aid in the restoration of damaged muscles and soft tissue in the entire body. Using a specific series of cross-tissue movements applied to the muscles certified Pfrimmer Therapist concentrates on all layers of muscle that have become depleted of their normal blood and lymphatic flow.

Bamboo Massage:

Bamboo massage is a technique that incorporates bamboo pieces of varying lengths and diameters to provide deep-tissue work. The massage itself promotes circulation, sensory nerve perception, and lymphatic drainage and because it is done with warm bamboo it provides a deep sense of relaxation and well-being.

Prenatal Massage:

Prenatal massage shares many of the goals of regular massage — to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good. But it's also tailored specifically to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies, and therapists who are trained in prenatal massage adjust their techniques accordingly.

In addition to the normal benefits of massage, prenatal massage has a number of benefits for mothers-to-be:

  • Reduces stress levels
  • Eases back and foot pain caused by changes in posture
  • Reduces swelling of feet and ankles
  • Improves skin elasticity, reducing stretch marks
  • Improves sleep
  • Improves digestion
  • Relaxes and soothes baby
  • Reduces pelvic pain

Sports Massage:

Sports Massage is a special form of massage and is typically used before, during, and after athletic events. The main purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively. The massage will help prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries. Sports massage can help prevent those niggling injuries that so often get in the way of performance and achievement, whether a person is an athlete or a once a week jogger.

Chair Massage:

Chair massage, which is also referred to as seated or “on-site” massage, is brief bodies massage session during which the client is fully dressed and seats face down on a specially designed massage chair. While in the chair, the client’s neck, back, shoulders, arms and hips are all accessible to the therapist.

Client Testimonial

I have a hereditary degenerative disc disease and have had several surgeries. I have found massage therapy to be of great benefit. I recently moved to Bloomington and feel very fortunate to have found Irmina. She is a wonderful, knowledgeable and professional therapist.
